Thrown away is not lost

Half of the unsorted household waste of the Latvian population goes to the “Getliņi” landfill. Our task is to take care of waste disposal in an environmentally friendly way. Waste is turned into new resources so that as little as possible needs to be buried in the mountain.

Methane gas or biogas is formed in the process of waste decomposition. In order to prevent environmental pollution, the gas is collected and burned, obtaining electricity and heat.

The electricity obtained at the landfill goes to the people of Latvia. Electricity and heat are also used to grow tomatoes and cucumbers in greenhouses. The landfill is an important stage of circular economy in Latvia.
